Adult Inpatient Residential Treatment
What is Inpatient Residential Treatment?
Mental health issues are more common than one might imagine. According to the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), there were 57.8 million adults in the United States who were 18 years of age or older who had a mental illness (AMI) in 2021.
This number represented 22.8% of all U.S. adults. Among those with AMI, only 26.5 million (47.2%) received mental health services (including inpatient or outpatient treatment or having used prescription medication) in the past year. This occurs usually because people are unaware that they require treatment, do not have insurance that covers mental health care, or are unable to pay for it.
Our residential care is called crisis stabilization which is a path to skip the ED / ER and go straightaway into a dignifying treatment plan to challenge old patterns of belief and behavior. Our unique beachside setting includes intensive care to arrest the progression of the disorder while providing the individual with autonomy and the comfort of care in a small, hope-giving, individually tailored psychiatric setting. Crisis stabilization can take just 3-4 weeks when you have the right team of experts. The new environment, schedule, rebalanced circadian rhythm, nutrition and social therapeutic helps the group work, family plan and individual work take root. In many cases, the residential crisis stabilization is where the real shift happens because some things can't change for more than a week in the "old" environment. It takes a professional team and environment to help the brain and body reset and seize its natural biological rhythms. Desired results stick when consistent, predictable successes are informed, acknowledged and repeated. Solstice specializes in building up mindset, hardening neural circuitry for quality of life, and letting habits support mental and overall wellness. Many of our clients are tired of their loved one reminding them, stepping in, "saving" them and they report the tension between what feels like "nag" and avoidance is unbearable. For those who want independence and emotional regulation, this first step in treatment may be necessary. For the person who is suffering with mood, relationships, isolation and feels the status quo is unsustainable, call Solstice Pacific if you are ready to get to work. We will talk when you are ready for the highest standard of care in psychiatry. The habits and freedom you find here will enrich your relationships and imagination.
What are the Benefits from Mental Health Care?
The benefits of mental health care are significant. It can lessen the risk of suicide for those who have mental diseases, help them better manage their symptoms, and enhance their quality of life.
Additionally, receiving mental health care can ultimately lower the cost of medical care and social assistance, and reduce job loss or dropping out of education. Early intervention ultimately assists individuals in their overall health, function, and being able to continue in their education or employment.

Through exercise, nutrition, antioxidant rich green juice, recreation and evidence based clinical care, our program reduces inflammation and increases cognitive flexibility. While meals are prepared in the gourmet kitchen, 7 patio seating styles are available for small group or individual sessions. Beachside breezes blow through while skills are developing in yoga, CBT, REBT, dialectical work (DBT) and trauma informed psychiatry lectures.
Note: Due to demand, this facility offers a maximum stay of 30 days. We recommend most patients plan on 21 days of care for an unmatched boost to their life long recovery plan.
Solstice Levels of Care and Duration
The average length of stay in a residential program is 21 to 30 days, whereas Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) requires at least 25 to 35 days and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) requires a minimum of 20 to 30 days. Together, these phases can last 2-4 months. The acceleration of independence from luxury beach stay (RTC) to upscale PHP/Day Treatment to IOP to Outpatient aftercare create skills that stick and reduce the likelihood of a psychiatric emergency or worsening of symptoms after graduation from the program.
Individuals who have not seen symptom relief from outpatient treatment are offered residential treatment. Individuals who are accepted into a residential program get a break from situations, people, or challenges that could be upsetting while still taking advantage of a setting for higher-level treatment. Treatment includes 3 nutritious meals a day, 7 days per week. Gluten and Pescatarian needs are collected before Intake.
Integrative psychiatry, used at Solstice Pacific, integrates conventional psychiatric treatments with complementary and alternative medicine (CAM). This gives the patient a more all-encompassing treatment plan and guarantees that not just their mental health but all facets of their health are taken into account. Yoga, meditation, and aromatherapy are some of the CAM treatments that integrative psychiatry might apply. Receiving care in a residential setting is especially recommended if the current living environment is unsafe, unsteady in some way, or is possibly contributing to worsened symptoms. Getting space and resetting routines, habits, and environment is a powerful way to implement change and experience relief sooner.
While residential provides a safe place to heal away from the home, the family or support system is still involved in care. Involving support members in the care planning process is important for breaking the cycle of isolation and shame, and for incorporating accountability. Change happens with strong routines, healthy lifestyle, consistency, and accountability. Residential provides that first step towards change, and continuing to Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) (respectively) help reinforce that change as patients integrate back into their real-life scenarios. The focus is to rehabilitate skills that mitigate mood symptoms, decrease risky behaviors, and support long-term wellness.

Addressing Attention and Focus in Adult Mental Health Treatment
While the journal article focuses on the impact of digital devices on children's attention spans and cognitive development, the themes of addressing attention and focus are also highly relevant to adult mental health treatment.
Research suggests that excessive use of technology can lead to difficulties with attention and focus, a phenomenon sometimes referred to as “digital dementia.” At Solstice, our adult inpatient residential treatment program recognizes the potential impact of technology on mental health and incorporates evidence-based therapies to help clients develop healthy habits and coping mechanisms.
Our integrative psychiatry approach combines conventional psychiatric treatments with complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) therapies, such as yoga, meditation, and aromatherapy. By addressing the mind-body connection and incorporating a range of therapeutic modalities, we aim to provide our clients with a comprehensive treatment plan that supports long-term recovery.
Creating a supportive environment is also crucial to the success of our adult inpatient residential treatment program. We offer a structured, nurturing setting where individuals can focus on their mental health without the distractions and stressors of daily life—by providing a consistent routine, healthy meals, and opportunities for physical activity and recreation, we help our clients develop the skills and resilience needed to manage their symptoms and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
